Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists

From fairies and mythical monsters to everyday backyard creatures, “Storybook Look: Illustrations by Southern Artists” showcases the imaginative world of children and the artists who create it.

Featuring original artwork from 10 of the South’s most notable children's book illustrators, the exhibit includes 28 paintings, photographs and cut-paper/mixed media artworks from artists known throughout the nation for their various illustration styles.

Two Mississippi natives are included in the exhibit. In “N is for Natural State: An Arkansas Alphabet,” Rick Anderson shares the natural beauty of Arkansas and invites the reader to explore the sights and wonders of the state through his works in watercolors and giclee prints. Sarah C. Campbell is the writer and photographer behind “Wolfsnail: A Backyard Predator.”

’Storybook Look: Illustration by Southern Artists” is a recent addition to ’Southern Visions: The Southern Arts & Culture Traveling Exhibits Program,” operated by the Southern Arts Federation.

Main Street Books will be selling the featured Illustrators’ most recent works at the Saenger Theater Gallery for the duration of the exhibit.
